Hyperhidrosis (Excess Sweating)

Hyperhidrosis is an annoying, embarrassing, and an isolating problem for many, but can be successfully treated through the use of injections into the armpit. These injections block excretion of sweat by apocrine sweat glands. There is no side effects to this treatment.

What is involved in the procedure?
An anesthethic cream is applied to the area to be treated and left on for 20 minutes. The use of this cream makes the procedure virtually painless. The area is then injected with Botulinum Toxin injections via a very fine needle. Approximately 15 sites are injected into each underarm area with the entire procedure taking between 5 – 10 minutes to administer.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects are generally minimal but may include mild pain at the injection sites which will subside immediately after treatment.

How long does the treatment last?
Depending on an individual’s response to the injection, the treatment may last anywhere between 6 to12 months. You will start to notice a reduction in sweating within 2 weeks of treatment.

Hyperhidrosis treatment is not suitable for the following:
During your consultation the doctor will review your medical history and make a decision on whether you are suitable for this procedure. Generally it is advised that this treatment is not suitable for those with particular allergies or those  who have a particular range of neuromuscular disorders and ladies who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
