As we age, the area between the lower eyelid and cheeks lose elasticity and fluid resulting in hollowness, puffiness and dark circles or bags under the eyes. Our faces begin to appear fatigued and attention is drawn to the unflattering lines and shadows that frame what is often considered the windows into our soul. With the use of dermal fillers, the tear trough treatment restores volume within the area, leaving patients look younger and refreshed.
Unlike eyebag removal surgery, the use of dermal fillers are non-invasive and does not change the shape of the eyes. It also minimises the return of bags and lines when treated every 24 – 36 months.
Dr Millard explains “the treatment works on the depressions that run from the inner to outer corners of the eyes, unlike surgery, this treatment plumps up the hollows and conceals the dark circles under the eyes. It’s a beautiful treatment that immediately reduces the signs of ageing and tired appearance”.
Dermal filler treatments in tear troughs requires a significant amount of training, skill and judgment. The filler is administered above the bone of the eye socket, which is massaged into the pocket beneath the eye and around the fatty tissue, plumping up hollows, concealing dark circles and blending into the cheekbones. A qualified and highly experienced practitioner to ensure the patient’s safety and success should only administer this treatment.
Side-effects for tear trough treatment includes mild bruising and swelling that will subside in a few days. But unlike an operation, a second injection simply dissolves the fillers if necessary.
