Everyone has a range of different fats in their bodies. Some of these fats wrap around organs, others are in place of muscle. Other fats lie just beneath the skin layer around your thighs, on your legs, arms, stomach and neck that appear as bumps on your skin. This type of fat is what we know as cellulite, which up to 90% of women suffer from at some point in their lives.
There are a range of factors that contribute to cellulite formation, these include genetics, hormones, diet, poor circulation and exercise.
Collagen fibres support your skin structure, they form a mesh, with the skin on one side and the fat on the other. When there’s not enough room for the fat, it starts pressing against the collagen fibres. The more fat that builds up, the more stretched and out of shape the fibres become, until the fat starts to push its way through and around the fibres. You start to see puckering in the skin where the fibres are pulled and lumps and bumps and that’s what we call cellulite.
There are a few natural ways to attempt to reduce the appearance of cellulite, these include regular exercise, clean eating, body brushing or cellulite reducing creams.
If you still find the appearance of cellulite has not reduced, you should consult your medical cosmetic physician about the possibility of undertaking a course of lipolysis injections.
Lipolysis is a treatment injected just under the skin to break down fatty deposits. Lipolysis is not a weight-loss treatment, however is an effective, permanent treatment of reducing stubborn pockets of fat and cellulite.
At Utopian Cosmetics, our doctors will discuss options and a treatment plan will be implemented, usually between 3-6 treatments every 6-8 weeks are necessary to completely reduce the pocket of fat.
